On necropsy, profuse internal haemorrhage without causal trauma observed, leading suspicion intoxication with an anticoagulant. Liver tissue samples were sent Institute Pharmacology, Toxicology Pharmacy Ludwig Maximilian University, Munich, Germany, anticoagulant residue analysis, revealing amount 40.3 ng/g brodifacoum, second-generation rodenticide. Information from finding site did not give any evidence wilful poisoning, thus secondary rodenticide poisoning through intoxicated prey determined as cause death.

Secondary and Tertiary Poisoning Risks Associated with Brodifacoum
The field use of brodifacoum baits (Talon® and Pestoff®) to control brushtail possums (Trichosurus vulpecula) has increased in recent years. This has raised concerns of secondary and tertiary poisoning, resulting from the transfer of this toxicant through the food chain. In New Zealand, feral pigs (Sus scrofa) are known to scavenge possum carcasses and may also gain access to bait stations cont...
متن کاملThe Persistence and Secondary Poisoning Risks of Sodium Monofluoroacetate (1080), Brodifacoum, and Cholecalciferol In Possums
To determine the risk of secondary poisoning for animals preying on sub-lethally poisoned brushtail possums, captive possums were treated with near-lethal doses of sodium monofluoroacetate (1080) or brodifacoum, and toxicant concentrations in blood and tissue were monitored over time. Sodium monofluoroacetate was rapidly eliminated from the blood (within three days). Brodifacoum was retained in...

متن کاملHEMATOLOGICAL FINDINGS OF SULPHUR MUSTARD POISONING IN IRANIAN COMBATANTS
Sulphur mustard (SM) is an alkylating agent that was first used as a chemical warfare agent during the First World War in 1917. SM is readily absorbed from the skin, respiratory and gastrointestinal tract and is distributed to several organs. SM may act rapidly and persistently upon DNA replicating mechanism of the individual cells during mitosis particularly in the hematopoietic system. O...
